CJP Protest: Neha Bora Detained Near Jantar Mantar as Anti-CEC Demonstration Continues

New Delhi. Protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar continued in Delhi on Saturday, October 3, with several demonstrators, including All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora, detained by the Delhi Police while marching towards Jantar Mantar.

The protest was organised by members of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), opposition groups and student organisations over concerns surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Protesters have alleged irregularities in the revision process and have demanded Kumar’s resignation. These allegations remain contested.

Bora, who was among those detained during Friday’s demonstration, had called on protesters to return to Jantar Mantar at 1 pm on Saturday. Following her appeal, AISA activists and other protesters gathered again, but police deployed additional personnel and barricades to prevent the march from reaching the protest site.

Several other prominent figures, including activist Yogendra Yadav and senior advocate Prashant Bhushan, were also detained during Saturday’s protest. Reports put the number of people detained during the second day of demonstrations at around 150.

The latest action came a day after Delhi Police detained more than 500 people during Friday’s demonstration. Police said permission had not been granted for the protests and security restrictions were in place in the area.

The demonstrations are linked to wider protests in Delhi and Mumbai over the SIR exercise and the functioning of the Election Commission. The protesters have called for greater transparency and accountability, while the authorities have cited restrictions on the gatherings as the basis for preventing the demonstrations.
