JOURNALISTS ARE THE MIRROR OF SOCIETY: RAJU OJHA

BUXAR--------------------------On the special occasion of Hindi Journalism Day, we not only commemorate the journey of the language but also revisit the values ​​that have established journalism as the fourth pillar of democracy. Speaking on this auspicious occasion, the renowned social worker and distinguished public figure, Raju Ojha, shared profound insights regarding the nature of journalism and its inherent responsibilities.

In his address, Raju Ojha articulated that... Hindi journalism is not merely a medium for the exchange of information; rather, it serves as a primary platform for raising social awareness, strengthening democracy, and giving a powerful voice to the sentiments of the common people. He stated that a journalist is, in essence, a mirror of society—one who presents both the positive aspects and the challenges facing society with complete impartiality.

Turning the pages of history, he noted that the foundation of Hindi journalism was laid during a period marked by immense struggle. Nearly two centuries ago—at a time when English, Persian, Urdu, and Bengali held linguistic dominance across the country—the 30th of May, 1826, was etched in golden letters. On that day, Pandit Jugal Kishore Shukla laid the robust cornerstone of Hindi journalism by publishing *Udant Martand*—the very first Hindi newspaper.

Raju Ojha remarked that *Udant Martand* not only bestowed a distinct identity upon the Hindi language but also infused a sense of public consciousness into Indian society. At that time, the prevailing conditions under British rule were arduous, and there were no concessions regarding postal rates; consequently, this weekly publication could not sustain itself for a prolonged period. Nevertheless, the foundation it laid and the historical contribution it made shall remain immortal forever, having paved the way for the future of journalism.

Discussing the contemporary landscape, Raju Ojha observed that Hindi journalism has today reached the farthest corners of the nation and has truly emerged as the authentic voice of society. Emphasizing impartiality as the greatest strength of the profession, he asserted that it is a journalist's fearlessness that ultimately establishes justice and truth within society.

On this occasion, he extended his heartfelt greetings on the observance of Hindi Journalism Day to all senior journalists, mentors, young colleagues, and budding reporters. He issued a call to action, urging that this noble endeavor of journalism must always be advanced with values ​​rooted in impartiality, fearlessness, and the public interest. It is this impartial journalism—dedicated to the service of society—that will continue to play a pivotal role in guiding the nation forward on the path of progress.
