Codeine-Based Syrup Under Scanner: Drug Inspectors Raid Chand Medical Store in Badaun
Suspected Cough Syrup Samples Seized; Stock Records Raise Doubts at Local Medical Store..
Badaun(RNI) : Acting on the directives of the Commissioner, Food Safety and Drug Administration, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, and in compliance with the letter issued by the Drug Inspector, Bareilly, a surprise inspection was conducted on Tuesday at M/s Chand Medical Store located in Mohshampur, Bilhat, Badaun. Upon arrival, the team found a man selling medicines at the store counter. During questioning, he identified himself as Mohammad Arif, son of Abdul Hameed, resident of Mohshampur, Bilhat, and claimed to be the owner of the establishment.
During the inspection, officials thoroughly examined the purchase and sale records of Sypcoff-T (Codeine-based) Syrup 100 ml. The documents revealed that the store had purchased:
12 bottles of Sypcoff-T syrup (Batch No. TBHU0285) via Invoice No. A004263 dated 05.12.2024
13 bottles of Sypcoff-T syrup (Batch No. LPS-C2411089) via Invoice No. A005177 dated 04.02.2025
from M/s Badaun Pharma, Station Road, Old Bus Stand, near S.K. Inter College, Badaun.
However, during the inspection, the stock of Sypcoff-T syrup at the store was found to be nil, and no sale bills were produced on the spot. The mismatch between records and inventory raised suspicion regarding the distribution and disposal of the codeine-containing syrup.
Following the discrepancies, Drug Inspector Lavkush Prasad collected two samples of the suspected medicines, which have been sent to the Government Laboratory for analysis. Authorities stated that appropriate legal action will be taken after the lab report is received.
