ARA----------------------The Ganga is not merely a river; it is the foundation of our culture, civilization, and life. It is the collective responsibility of us all to preserve its pristine flow and ensure water security for future generations. With the aim of spreading this message to the masses, students at Sahajanand Brahmarshi College, Ara, showcased their talent, creativity, and knowledge on Saturday to raise awareness about the conservation of the Ganga. Under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is Service) Special Campaign-2024, and initiated by the Bhojpur District Administration, the District Ganga Committee of Bhojpur organized a ‘Ganga Knowledge Competition’ and a seminar on water conservation and cleanliness, themed ‘Let’s Learn About the Ganga.’ Through art, group rangoli, and general knowledge competitions, the students conveyed messages regarding the cleanliness of the Ganga, water harvesting, and environmental protection.

The event highlighted the students' creativity. Through their artwork and group rangolis, the participants effectively presented the need for water conservation, cleanliness, and the protection of rivers from pollution. In the general knowledge competition, students demonstrated their understanding of topics related to the Ganga River, the environment, and water conservation.

Participants who performed exceptionally well in the competitions were awarded prizes and certificates for securing the first, second, and third positions. The objective of the event went beyond mere competition; it sought to sensitize students toward nature and involve them in the broader mission of environmental conservation.

During the seminar, speakers emphasized that the Ganga is a cultural, spiritual, and natural heritage of India. Maintaining its cleanliness and continuous, unhindered flow is the duty of every individual in society. Along with protecting rivers, ponds, and other water sources from pollution, the judicious use of water has become an urgent necessity of the times.

Students were urged to become conscious of water conservation and cleanliness themselves, and to inspire their families and society at large to do the same. The speakers emphasized that through small, collective efforts, water conservation can be transformed into a mass movement.

The event was inaugurated through the ceremonial lighting of a lamp by a group of dignitaries, including the Director of the District Rural Development Agency (Bhojpur), the District Art and Culture Officer, the Principal of Sahajanand Brahmarshi College, a representative from the District Water and Sanitation Committee, the District Project Officer, the District Coordinator of the District Ganga Committee (Bhojpur), a representative from ITC, and the Programme Officer of the National Service Scheme (NSS).

In his welcome address, the District Coordinator highlighted the objectives of the event and the significance of conserving the Ganga. The programme was steered and led by Amit Kumar Singh, the District Project Officer for the District Ganga Committee (Bhojpur). The NSS Programme Officer delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the guests, teachers, students, and organizers who contributed to the success of the event.

Campus Ambassadors Nitish Kumar and Nishant Kumar, along with NSS volunteers—Sachin Kumar, Aditya Kumar, Anjali Kumari, Khushi Kumari, Rupali Kumari, Himanshi Kumari, Aman Kumar, Bittu Kumar, and Sudhanshu Kumar—as well as students from various other colleges, played a pivotal role in the success of the programme.

The event conveyed a clear message: protecting the Ganga is not the responsibility of any single department or institution alone; rather, it should be a commitment shared by every citizen. Only when water is conserved, rivers remain clean, and the environment is safeguarded, can the future of coming generations be secured.
