PATNA-A case has emerged involving extortion demands and death threats directed at Rakshit Kashyap, the aide of Bihar government minister Ashok Choudhary. The dispute reportedly stems from control over the minister's official X (formerly Twitter) handle and the associated Gmail account. Treating the matter seriously, a written complaint has been lodged at the Patna Cyber Police Station.
What is the matter?: According to the written complaint, Nishant Ketu Jha—the minister's former personal assistant—still retains control over the minister's official X handle and the linked Gmail account. It is alleged that a ransom is being demanded in exchange for restoring access to these accounts. The complaint further states that, alongside the refusal to hand over access, constant pressure is being applied, accompanied by threats of dire consequences.
The complaint also mentions that threatening voice notes have been sent to Indramohan Kumar Tunna, a close associate of the minister. These voice notes contain threats of shooting and warnings that the perpetrators would go to any lengths. The incident has raised concerns regarding the safety of the minister and his associates.
It is reported that attempts to address this issue had been made previously. On July 4, Minister Ashok Choudhary had filed an application at the Cyber Police Station, leading to the registration of an FIR. Despite this, the dispute was not fully resolved; now, following fresh allegations of extortion demands and death threats, the police have intensified their investigation.
What did the police say?: The Cyber Police stated, "The entire matter is being investigated based on the written complaint. Technical analysis will be conducted on digital evidence, relevant emails, X account activity, and the alleged voice notes. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation."
In recent times, several cases involving extortion and threats have surfaced in Bihar. A few days ago, a case involving an extortion demand made to a former MLA from Parbatta came to light. Meanwhile, a doctor named Dr. Sanjeev was also targeted with an extortion demand made in the name of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. In that instance, the police took swift action and arrested the accused.
