ARA------------------------------The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Patna, organized a financial literacy and awareness program in Ara, Bhojpur, for groups associated with Pidiya painting. Approximately 50 members participated enthusiastically. During the event, an RBI official provided detailed information on various banking services, government schemes, and safe financial practices using audio-visual presentations and simple examples.
Women were apprised of the benefits of social security schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana, and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. Additionally, detailed information was provided regarding loan facilities available under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, key aspects of loan interest, and the benefits of timely loan repayment.
Participants were informed that timely loan repayment improves their credit history, facilitates future borrowing, and fosters financial discipline. Furthermore, useful information was shared regarding the importance of nominations in bank accounts, the need for periodic KYC updates, the features of Basic Savings Bank Deposit Accounts (BSBDA), and the procedure for processing death claims in the event of an account holder's demise.
In light of the rising incidence of cyber-financial crimes, participants were educated in detail about various types of cyber fraud, including "money mule" scams, "digital arrest" tactics, and fraud related to online banking and UPI. They were advised not to share ATM/debit card PINs, OTPs, CVVs, or other confidential banking details with anyone; to avoid clicking on suspicious links; and never to share banking information requested by strangers via phone, messages, or social media.
Detailed information was also provided on how to identify cyber fraudsters, the common tactics they employ, and the precautions necessary to protect against cyber crimes like "digital arrest." Participants were also made aware of the key provisions of the RBI’s Integrated Ombudsman Scheme and the grievance redressal process for banking complaints. They were also informed about the national cybercrime reporting toll-free number (1930) and the portal cybercrime.gov.in, so they could utilize these resources in the event of any fraud involving their accounts. A question-and-answer session was held at the conclusion of the program.
