ARA------------------------More than a decade has passed since the liquor ban was implemented in Bihar, yet curbing the illegal liquor trade remains a major challenge for the police and the government. Consignments of liquor are frequently being seized across various districts of the state. The biggest question is: how are liquor consignments from other states reaching Bihar when a total liquor ban is in force?
In Bhojpur, continuous raids and vehicle-checking drives are being conducted to combat the illegal liquor trade. Amidst these efforts, on June 12, 2026, Assistant Commissioner (Prohibition) Rajnish received a tip-off that a large quantity of foreign liquor was being transported to Bihar from Haryana in a truck.
Acting on this information, a joint team comprising the Bhojpur Prohibition and Excise Department and the State Control Bureau, Patna, conducted a raid near the Mahurahi overbridge (under the Dhangai police station area) on the Mohania-Ara four-lane highway and intercepted a Mahindra Blazo truck. A large quantity of illicit foreign liquor was recovered from the truck during the search. The truck bore the registration number PB10JP-9177.
The truck driver, Amandeep Singh (son of Malkit Singh, resident of Karnal, Haryana), and Jarnail Singh (son of Hakim Singh, resident of Sharifgarh, Shahabad police station area, Kurukshetra district, Haryana) were arrested at the scene. The market value of the seized liquor is estimated to be over ₹1.35 crore. Reports indicate that the consignment was being transported from Haryana to Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
Legal proceedings are underway to produce the two arrested smugglers before the court. The raiding team included Inspector Anil Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Dheeraj Kumar Singh, and Assistant Sub-Inspector Madan Lal Yadav, along with prohibition constables and personnel from the SAP (Special Auxiliary Police) and Home Guards. The Prohibition and Excise Department stated that the campaign against illegal liquor would continue.
