BUXAR---------------------------A peaceful sit-in protest was organized at the Buxar railway premises on Tuesday under the leadership of the District Congress Committee, Buxar, demanding the reopening of the Itadhi railway crossing for public movement in the interest of the people. The protest was led by District Congress Committee President Pankaj Kumar Upadhyay.
Addressing the gathering, District President Pankaj Kumar Upadhyay stated that the damage to the Railway Overbridge (ROB) on the Buxar-Itadhi route has disrupted connectivity to the district headquarters for a population of lakhs across Itadhi block and dozens of surrounding villages. Consequently, ordinary citizens, students, patients, farmers, traders, and working professionals are facing immense daily hardships.
He noted that the repair and reconstruction of the ROB could take another two to three months. Under these circumstances, keeping the Itadhi railway crossing closed is further exacerbating the public's difficulties. The Congress demanded that the railway administration prioritize the public interest and immediately reopen the crossing.
Following the protest, a Congress delegation submitted a memorandum addressed to the Divisional Railway Manager (East Central Railway, Danapur Division) through the Buxar Station Manager. The memorandum demanded the immediate reopening of the Itadhi railway crossing for public movement and requested that passage through the crossing be permitted as an alternative arrangement until the ROB becomes fully operational.
The District Congress Committee, Buxar, warned that if a positive decision regarding this crucial public-interest demand is not taken soon, the agitation would be expanded into a full-scale mass movement.
Hundreds of Congress leaders and workers were present at the protest, including Kameshwar Pandey, Umashankar Pandey, Harishankar Trivedi, Raja Raman Pandey, Lalbabu Mishra, Bucha Upadhyay, Nirmala Devi, Lakshman Upadhyay, Raju Ranjan Verma, Sabir Hashmi, Ganesh Pandey, Shivakant Pandey, Gupteshwar Pandey, Sanjay Pandey, and Prof. P.K. Mishra.
