ARA-----------------------Bihar's first integrated aqua park is being constructed in Bhojpur. It is being developed at a cost of ₹31.20 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.
Bihar's first integrated aqua park will be constructed at the historic Banasur Fish Seed Farm, located in Nawadaben village of the Udwantnagar block in Bhojpur district. This ambitious project, costing approximately ₹31.20 crore, will not only elevate fish production in the state to new heights but also strengthen employment, tourism, and the local economy.
Developed under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, this modern aqua park will span an area of approximately 32 acres. With the foundation stone being laid today, June 15, by Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, a new era of scientific and modern fish farming is considered to have begun in the state.
Once this project is operational, the state's dependence on other states for high-quality fish seeds will decrease. A key highlight of this project is the rejuvenation of the historic Banasur Pond, which had been neglected for years.
This site, steeped in mythological significance and a rich history, is now set to become a hub of modern technology and development. State-of-the-art national-level carp hatcheries (fish breeding units), training centers, and other modern facilities will be constructed within the complex. While this initiative will preserve a historical heritage site, it will also pave the way for national recognition by integrating it with modern development.
The integrated aqua park will create new employment opportunities for local youth, farmers, and fishermen. State-of-the-art laboratories, fish disease testing and diagnostic centers, processing units, and training facilities will be developed within the complex. This will provide direct employment to a large number of people, while thousands will benefit indirectly through trade, transportation, and supply chain activities.
The project will also play a crucial role in curbing migration from rural areas and provide local self-employment opportunities for the youth. Fisheries Development Officer Saurabh Kumar stated that this project would not be limited to fish production alone but would also establish a new identity for Bhojpur in the tourism sector. The park is being developed as an ‘Aqua Tourism Hub,’ where visitors can observe and learn about modern fish farming techniques.
The area is also set to emerge as an attractive destination for families and tourists. Increased tourist footfall will boost the income of hotels, transport services, restaurants, and small businesses, thereby providing significant benefits to the local economy.
"Preparations for the project have been completed by the district administration and the Fisheries Department. With the rejuvenation of the historic Banasur Pond, job creation, modern fish production, and immense tourism potential, this integrated aqua park could prove to be a new model of development not just for Bhojpur, but for the entire state of Bihar. In the coming years, this project will lay a strong foundation for a ‘Blue Revolution’ in the state and earn Bhojpur a new identity at the national level." — Saurabh Kumar, Fisheries Development Officer
