ADJ-2 COURT AWARDS LIFE IMPRISONMENT TO TWO PERSONS AND SLAPS A FINE OF Rs. ONE LAKH FINE EACH OF CONVICTS

Buxar (RNI) In a murder case verdict, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge-2 nailed two accused as guilty, sentencing them to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of one lakh rupees each. Failure to pay the fine will land them an additional six months in jail. The case, linked to Brahmpur police station case number 196/21, involves Poonam Devi, wife of Jitendra Paswan, and Rakesh Paswan, son of Mohan Paswan, both residents of Jawhi Jagdishpur under Brahmpur police station. Additional Public Prosecutor Vinod Kumar Singh shared, “The court sentenced Rakesh Paswan and Poonam Devi to life imprisonment for the murder. Each faces a one-lakh-rupee fine, with an extra six months in jail if unpaid.” The incident dates back to April 15, 2021, when Kapit Shah and his son Subhash Shah, residents of Jawhi Jagdishpur, were cycling home from a barn with husk. En route, Poonam Devi, Rakesh Paswan, and others ambushed the father-son duo, attacking them with knives and bricks. Subhash succumbed to his injuries during treatment in Danapur while being rushed to Patna. Based on Kapit Shah’s statement, an FIR was lodged at Brahmpur police station against Poonam Devi, Rakesh Paswan, and others. The prosecution presented seven witnesses, including the medical officer and investigating officer, before the court. Citing evidence under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, the court found the duo guilty, handing down life sentences and the hefty fines. Non-payment will extend their jail term by six months.
