BHABHUA-------------------------Although a total ban on alcohol is in force in Bihar, the illicit trade of liquor smuggling across state borders shows no signs of stopping. The latest incident comes from the Mohania police station area in Kaimur district, where the Excise Police seized a large consignment of illegal liquor during a major operation at the Integrated Check Post on National Highway-19 (NH-19).

An Excise Department team was conducting routine vehicle checks at the Mohania Integrated Check Post when they signaled a suspicious car coming from the direction of Uttar Pradesh to stop. Upon searching the vehicle, cartons of liquor were found concealed inside. The police recovered a total of 282 liters of illegal liquor from the car. This prompt action by the police thwarted the smugglers' plans.

The police also apprehended a liquor smuggler at the scene. During interrogation, the arrested individual was identified as Amit Kumar (25), son of Pradeep Vishwakarma and a resident of New Dalmia Ward No. 21 in Rohtas district. The police have not only arrested the smuggler but also seized the car used to transport the liquor. A case has been registered against the accused under the Excise Act, and proceedings to send him to judicial custody are underway.

This illicit liquor smuggling trade operates in a highly organized manner. The smugglers' primary hub is the border area of Uttar Pradesh, where they purchase liquor at low prices and bring it into Bihar. Due to the scarcity of liquor in Bihar, smugglers dream of making a fortune overnight by selling it at double or sometimes triple the purchase price.

A vast network of professional smugglers is active in this trade. They employ various new tactics to evade the scrutiny of the police and the administration. Although many of these smugglers get caught by the police, the lure of huge profits keeps drawing new faces into this illegal trade. According to the local police, an intensive investigation is now underway to uncover the entire syndicate and reach the masterminds controlling this smuggling operation from across the border. For now, this crackdown by the Mohania police has caused panic among illegal liquor traders.
