Fire Breaks Out at Delhi’s North Block, Six Fire Engines Rushed to Spot

New Delhi: A fire broke out in an air-conditioning boiler installed on the rooftop of North Block in Delhi on Monday morning, triggering panic after thick black smoke was seen rising above the historic government building. Six fire engines were rushed to the spot, and the blaze was brought under control.

According to the fire department, the incident was reported at around 11:10 am. Preliminary information suggests that welding work was underway at the site when a suspected short circuit triggered the fire in one of the AC boilers. Firefighters responded promptly and managed to bring the situation under control.

North Block is a historic red-sandstone building located on Raisina Hill in New Delhi. It houses several important offices of the central government. The thick smoke rising from the rooftop attracted attention in the surrounding area.

Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora also reported seeing smoke rising from behind North Block while he was travelling to Parliament. He shared his observation on social media and expressed concern over the incident.

The fire department confirmed that the blaze had been brought under control. No casualties or injuries had been reported at the time of the initial information. The exact cause of the fire will be established after further investigation.
