YOUTH ATTACKED MOTHER AND DAUGHTER, TWO ARRESTED

19-APRIL-ENG 9

RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

ARA---------------------------Angered by the dissolution of his engagement, a young man, accompanied by an accomplice, launched an attack on the young woman, her mother, and her maternal aunt. During the assault, the young woman's mother sustained severe injuries after being struck by a blade. The incident occurred on Friday night at a private hospital located in Pakri, within the jurisdiction of the Nawada Police Station. In connection with the matter, the injured woman's daughter filed a written complaint at the Nawada Police Station, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the two youths by name.

Acting swiftly, the Nawada Police arrested both accused individuals and remanded them to judicial custody. One of the accused was arrested in the Kasab Tola area (under the Town Police Station jurisdiction), while the other was apprehended at his residence in the Khetari locality. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohd. Ashiq—son of Mohd. Buddhan, a resident of the Khetari locality—and Mohd. Arif—son of Mohd. Aslam, a resident of Kasab Tola; both reside within the jurisdiction of the Town Police Station.

According to reports, Mohd. Ashiq—a resident of the Khetari locality—had been engaged to the young woman in question four years ago. However, just a few months after the engagement, Ashiq was imprisoned in connection with a murder case. Consequently, considering their safety and future prospects, the young woman's family decided to call off the engagement. Since his release from jail a year and a half ago, the accused had been relentlessly stalking the young woman. He would intercept her on her way to college and attempt to coerce her into marriage. Whenever she refused his proposals, he would threaten to kill her and publicly humiliate her.

On Friday night, while the young woman was at a private hospital near Pakri Chowk—accompanied by her mother and maternal aunt—to attend to her father's medical treatment, the accused, Mohd. Ashiq, arrived at the scene along with his friend, Mohd. Arif. The accused proceeded to attack the young woman, her mother, and her maternal aunt right within the hospital premises. During the altercation, the young woman's mother sustained injuries from a blade attack. Hospital staff members present at the scene intervened promptly to rescue the victimized women and immediately alerted the police about the incident. Based on a written complaint filed by the victim at the Nawada Police Station, the police have registered an FIR against Md. Ashiq and Md. Arif under sections pertaining to molestation, blackmailing, assault, and criminal intimidation (threats to kill). Nawada Station House Officer (SHO) Vipin Bihari stated that, considering the gravity of the matter, the police conducted an immediate raid. The police have arrested the accused, Md. Ashiq, from his residence in Khetari Mohalla, and his accomplice, Md. Arif, from his residence in Kasab Tola. Both have been sent to judicial custody.
