Supreme Court Orders Sealing of 44 Illegal Properties in Meerut, Pulls Up Officials for Non-Compliance

New Delhi/Meerut: The Supreme Court has taken a strict stance against illegal constructions in Meerut, directing the immediate sealing of 44 unauthorized properties. The court observed that several residential plots had been unlawfully converted into commercial establishments, including schools and hospitals, many of which were operating without approved building plans or basic fire safety measures.

During the hearing, the court expressed serious concern over the functioning of schools and hospitals in such unsafe and unauthorized structures, highlighting the potential risk to human lives. It warned that in case of any untoward incident, the concerned government officials would be held personally accountable.

The apex court also pulled up officials for failing to comply with earlier demolition orders, terming it a serious lapse. It directed authorities to ensure immediate action and strict adherence to its orders.

The directions came while hearing a contempt petition related to the незакон conversion of residential properties and violations of building regulations. The Supreme Court’s strong remarks are being seen as a major step towards enforcing accountability and curbing illegal constructions.
