SASARAM-------------------------Raids were conducted at two separate locations on Thursday as part of a special drive against electricity theft launched by the Nasriganj electricity supply branch of the South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL). Following the discovery of illegal electricity usage during inspections, a recommendation has been made to register an FIR against the concerned consumers under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003.
A team led by Junior Electrical Engineer Pankaj Kumar Sharma inspected the premises of Suresh Kumar, a resident of Sharifdih village under the Nasriganj police station area. The inspection revealed that the main service wire had been cut before the meter, and electricity was being stolen via an illegal connection.
The illegal wiring and the smart meter found at the site were seized. According to departmental assessment, this theft has resulted in a revenue loss of ₹4,05,074. The department has recommended legal action in addition to the recovery of the outstanding amount.
In a separate operation, a team led by Assistant Electrical Engineer Raju Kumar inspected a commercial premises in Jamalpur, within the jurisdiction of the Nasriganj police station. It was discovered that electricity was being consumed directly by bypassing the smart meter on a connection registered in the name of Sujit Kumar Singh.
During the inspection, a connected load of approximately 13.50 kilowatts was detected. The department seized the meter and the illegal wiring from the site. The revenue loss to the electricity company in this case has been estimated at ₹54,499.
Officials from the Electricity Department, the Electrical Sub-division, the STF, police personnel, and departmental staff participated in both raid operations. The department has clarified that the campaign against electricity theft will continue, and strict legal action will be taken against the offenders.
