PATNA---------------------------The Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended a fake Sub-Inspector at Patna Junction in the state capital, Patna. The individual would wear a police uniform to target train passengers. He would gain passengers' trust by showing a fake ID card and then flee after stealing their belongings.

The GRP achieved a significant breakthrough at Patna Junction in the state capital, Patna, on Saturday, July 4, 2026. The GRP (Government Railway Police) has arrested a fake Sub-Inspector at Patna Junction; he used to target train passengers by posing as an officer, utilizing a fake ID card and photographs of himself in a police uniform. The arrested individual is Ranjan Kumar, a resident of the area near the Jehanabad Court in Bihar. He would gain the trust of passengers using his fake credentials and uniform, rob them, and then flee the scene. The police had been searching for this imposter for a long time and have finally achieved a major breakthrough.

The imposter specifically targeted the Vande Bharat Express, stealing expensive items—such as mobile phones, laptops, and jewelry—from passengers before making a smooth escape. If anyone grew suspicious of his actions, he would flash his fake ID card and assert his authority, easily convincing passengers to believe him. Although the police had received repeated complaints about this fake Sub-Inspector, he had managed to evade capture. A passenger had provided a description of the man's appearance, which the police used to track him down.

The police were actively searching for him when they received a tip-off that a man matching that description had disembarked from the Vande Bharat Express and was standing on Platform No. 1 at Patna Junction. Officers immediately rushed to the spot and arrested the imposter. They also discovered photos of him in the police uniform on his mobile phone. He is currently being interrogated by the police.

According to reports, even his family members were unaware of his activities. Surprisingly, his wife—to whom he has been married for eight years—believed he was a genuine Sub-Inspector. The accused revealed that he had married in 2018 in Islampur, Nalanda. He had applied for the Sub-Inspector recruitment exam in 2019 but failed to qualify. However, he told his in-laws and family that he had secured a job as a police sub-inspector and had been posted to Gaya. He even had a photograph taken of himself in a police uniform and sent it to his family and in-laws; ever since then, he has been living with this identity.
