RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

BHABHUA------------------------The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Shivhar, organized a 'Field Day' in the village of Minapur Balhan, focusing on the improved variety of bio-fortified wheat known as 'Rajendra Gehu–3.' This event was conducted under the aegis of the Cluster Front Line Demonstration program.

More than 30 farmers actively participated in the program. On this occasion, Dr. Sanchita Ghosh—Scientist (Horticulture) and Nodal Officer—provided the farmers with detailed information regarding the characteristics and significance of bio-fortified wheat. She explained that 'Rajendra Gehu–3' is an advanced variety characterized by a high content of essential nutrients—specifically zinc and iron—which plays a crucial role in combating malnutrition. She also provided the farmers with comprehensive information regarding its complete 'Package of Practices,' including balanced fertilizer management, timely sowing, optimal seed rates, and effective pest and disease control measures. In her address, Dr. Ghosh stated that the widespread adoption of bio-fortified crops would not only boost farmers' incomes but also significantly improve the nutritional status of rural households. She encouraged the farmers to cultivate this specific variety across larger areas of their land.

Under the scope of this program, the cultivation of bio-fortified wheat is currently being demonstrated across a total area of 10 hectares. The participating farmers observed the crop's growth and the quality of its grain spikes, while also receiving technical guidance from the scientists.

In conclusion, the farmers expressed their appreciation for this initiative and emphasized the need for organizing similar programs in the future. Through such initiatives, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Shivhar, is actively acquainting farmers with the latest agricultural technologies, thereby working to strengthen both agricultural productivity and nutritional security.
