PERMANENT TRAFFIC CHECKPOST IN KOELWAR

ARA------------------------A new system has been implemented to alleviate the persistent traffic congestion caused by sand-laden trucks in Koilwar and the surrounding areas along the banks of the Son River, and to streamline traffic flow. As part of this initiative, a permanent traffic checkpost has been established. Police personnel will be deployed at key intersections and junctions in the vicinity, including Manbhavan Mor and Sakaddi Mor. To improve traffic management, a team comprising five police officers and 20 personnel has been assigned. These personnel will work in three shifts to ensure round-the-clock traffic control.

Manbhavan Chowk has been designated as the main command center for traffic operations. Additionally, two Sub-Inspectors and five constables will be deployed at Jhalkunagar. The deployed personnel will monitor traffic conditions at Manbhavan Mor, Sakaddi Mor, and the surrounding areas.

The entire operation will function under the control of the Koilwar Station House Officer (SHO), while the traffic system will be supervised by the SDPO-2 and the Traffic DSP.

The police personnel assigned to traffic control will be provided with two motorcycles and a handheld device (HHD) for issuing fines by the Police Lines. Furthermore, to ensure safety and better visibility while on duty, they will be equipped with radium jackets, light sticks, and two megaphones.

Personnel on duty will carry the megaphones strapped to their shoulders, facilitating the issuance of instructions to drivers and the management of traffic when necessary.

It is worth noting that traffic jams frequently occur in Koilwar and the nearby Son riverbank areas due to the haphazard movement of trucks and vehicles parked along the roadside. Long traffic jams are common—caused by sand-laden trucks—at Manbhavan Mor, Sakaddi Mor, the Koilwar-Doriganj Highway, the Sakaddi-Nasriganj State Highway, the Patna-Buxar National Highway, and surrounding localities.

This situation causes significant inconvenience to ordinary commuters, drivers of smaller vehicles, and local residents. Complaints regarding traffic disruptions have frequently arisen due to increased vehicle volume at key junctions, haphazard queuing of trucks on the Ara-Chhapra route, and the movement of heavy vehicles on the Sakaddi-Nasiriganj route.

At times, traffic congestion becomes so severe that even smaller vehicles take a long time to pass through. In this context, the establishment of a permanent traffic checkpost is expected to help bring the congestion problem under control.

Police personnel deployed at the checkpost will be responsible for traffic management on NH-922, SH-81, and the Koilwar-Babura highway. Their duties will include streamlining vehicle movement, taking immediate action during traffic jams, and penalizing drivers who violate traffic rules.

Additionally, monitoring will be conducted to curb unregulated and haphazard truck operations, wrong-way driving, and the practice of parking vehicles unnecessarily on the road. This police initiative is expected to alleviate traffic pressure on major routes and ensure smoother vehicle movement.
