LAND OF DECEASED ‘JAMABANDI’ HOLDERS TO BE TRANSFERRED TO HEIRS WITHOUT FORMAL APPLICATION

-Under a decision by the Bihar government, the Department of Revenue and Land Reforms has launched a new process to update land records—transferring land from deceased *Jamabandi* holders (recorded landholders) to their legal heirs. The process of mutation based on succession will now be carried out *suo motu* (on the administration's own initiative) via the Bihar Land Portal, eliminating the need for a formal application.

PATNA------------------------Under a decision by the Bihar government, the Department of Revenue and Land Reforms has launched a new process to update land records—transferring land from deceased *Jamabandi* holders (recorded landholders) to their legal heirs. The process of mutation based on succession will now be carried out *suo motu* (on the administration's own initiative) via the Bihar Land Portal, eliminating the need for a formal application.

Revenue Staff to Visit Villages: Revenue staff assigned to the *Halka* (revenue circle) will visit villages to identify deceased *Jamabandi* landholders.

Monthly Target of 5 Cases: It has been made mandatory for every revenue staff member to resolve at least five cases involving deceased *Jamabandi* holders each month.

Basis for Identification: The name of the deceased holder will be removed and replaced with those of their legal heirs based on birth and death certificates, *Chaukidari* (village watchman) reports, and information obtained from local public representatives and villagers.

Verification of Documents: Once the process begins, necessary documents—such as death certificates and family lineage records (*Vanshavali*)—will be collected from the heirs and verified.

Launched in the spirit of "Government at Your Doorstep" (*Sarkar Aapke Dwar*), this initiative will spare the public from making repeated rounds of government offices and facilitate the timely updating of land records in the names of the heirs. The general public is very pleased with this government initiative.
