IN RETALIATION, ELDERLY PERSON BEATEN TO DEATH

ARA-------------------------In an act of retaliation, an elderly man was beaten to death with an iron rod on Monday afternoon in Vishunpur village, located within the jurisdiction of the Chandi police station in Bhojpur district. His wife was also critically injured in the attack, causing a state of panic and chaos in the village.

The deceased has been identified as 72-year-old Basant Singh, a resident of Vishunpur village. His wife, 65-year-old Kusum Devi, is currently undergoing treatment at the Ara Sadar Hospital. Basant Singh succumbed to his severe injuries, while Kusum Devi remains in critical condition.

According to Sadar SDPO-2 Ranjeet Kumar Singh, preliminary investigations point to revenge as the motive behind the incident. Police state that the nephew of the accused, Ramashankar Singh—identified as Shantanu Singh—was shot dead in Pawna Bazaar on the night of October 16.

Shantanu Singh was a resident of Bargaon village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ajimabad police station. Ashwani Singh, alias Molu—the grandson of Basant Singh—was named as an accused in this murder case. The police subsequently arrested him.

According to the police, Ramashankar Singh, enraged by the murder of his nephew Shantanu, attacked Basant Singh and his wife, Kusum Devi, with an iron rod in Vishunpur village. Basant Singh died in the attack, while his wife sustained serious injuries.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Chandi Station House Officer (SHO) Sumeet Kumar arrived at the scene with a police team and initiated an investigation. Acting swiftly, the police arrested the primary accused, Ramashankar Singh. The iron rod used in the crime has also been recovered.

The police have sent the body of the deceased to Ara Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. An FIR has been registered, and further legal proceedings are underway.
