Voting is not just an expression, it is a symbol of citizen’s faith: Murmu

New Delhi (RNI) President Droupadi Murmu today said that voting is not merely a political expression but a symbol of citizens’ faith in the democratic electoral process.

Addressing the 16th National Voters’ Day celebrations here, the President said that the strength of Indian democracy lies not only in the large number of voters but also in the depth of democratic spirit. She noted that in this process, even the oldest voters, persons with disabilities, and citizens living in remote areas actively exercise their right to vote.

President Murmu commended conscious voters and all those involved in the electoral process, led by the Election Commission of India, for setting inspiring examples in the exercise of voting rights.

She said that public participation gives practical shape to the spirit of democracy at the grassroots level and added that the Election Commission has made sustained efforts to ensure that no voter is left behind.

The President also highlighted that several programmes have been organised to increase voter awareness. The theme chosen by the Election Commission this year, “My India, My Vote: Indian citizens at the heart of Indian democracy,” truly reflects the essence of democratic values.

Reiterating the importance of voting, President Murmu said that it is not just a political act but a reflection of citizens’ trust in the democratic process and a medium to express their aspirations.

She emphasized that while the right to vote is fundamental, it is equally important for all eligible citizens to exercise their franchise responsibly, keeping in mind their constitutional duties. L.S.
