BUXAR-----------------------------A severe storm swept through a local village within the jurisdiction of the Nawanagar police station, causing a tree to crash down onto a hut. Consequently, 60-year-old Subhag Ram, who was sitting inside the hut, lost his life. According to reports, Subhag Ram was seated in a makeshift hut located in front of his home when, amidst strong winds, a tree suddenly toppled over.

The hut, being structurally weak, collapsed completely, trapping him beneath the debris. Family members and villagers immediately rushed him to the Community Health Center, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Villagers point out that many families in the region continue to reside in makeshift, mud-built homes—dwellings that pose extreme risks during such adverse weather conditions. They note that the benefits of government welfare schemes are failing to reach all those in need. Meanwhile, the police arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation; however, the family members declined to consent to a post-mortem examination. In this regard, Nawanagar Station House Officer (SHO) Prafulla Kumar stated that the tree had fallen onto the hut due to the severe storm, resulting in the death of the elderly man who was inside. Ultimately, this incident serves as more than just a tragic accident; it also starkly highlights the issues of unsafe housing and inadequate disaster management.
