RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

ARA------------------------------To protect areas affected by the Ganga River from erosion, the government has initiated a plan to strengthen the embankment near Jawainia village in Shahpur block. This project will involve extensive anti-erosion work along the Ganga River.

After completion, half a dozen villages are expected to experience relief from Ganga erosion, and the threat to their very existence will be significantly reduced.

This project will be implemented between 58 and 60 kilometers under the Buxar-Koilwar Flood Control Division. The government has approved approximately ₹52.54 crore for this project.

Under this project, anti-erosion boulder pitching will be carried out from Chakki Nauranga in Uttar Pradesh to east of Jawainia in Bihar.

Under the project, a strong base will first be created under the waters of the Ganga River. For this, an NC base will be constructed using hundreds of sandbags filled with white sand.

This base will be designed to withstand the heavy weight of boulder pitching and ensure it will not collapse even under intense pressure.

After the NC base is ready, a mesh-like structure will be created using strong iron wires. Large stone boulders will be filled into this structure to create a strong structure.

Under the project, a bed of 25 crated boulders will be constructed on top of a 21 x 3 meter area, measuring three meters long, one and a half meters wide, and 60 centimeters thick.

Aprons and slope pitching will provide additional protection.

1206 NC bases will be constructed with a length of approximately 50 meters. Based on this, a crated boulder apron measuring approximately 10.5 meters by 1.5 meters will be constructed as needed.

Additionally, single-slope pitching will be done from bottom to top using crated boulders, providing strong protection to the banks from the strong currents of the Ganges.

After completion of this anti-erosion work, the villages of Chakki Nauranga in Uttar Pradesh, as well as Jawainia, Gangapur, Nandpur, Bhusaula, and Damodarpur in Bihar, are expected to receive significant relief.

The people of these villages have long been troubled by the Ganges' erosion, which annually causes agricultural land and parts of the villages to be submerged in the river.

Kanhaiya Singh, Executive Engineer of the Flood Control Division, Buxar, stated that the tender for this project has been published.

He stated that work will begin as soon as the tender process is completed, and efforts will be made to complete the anti-erosion work before the water level in the Ganges rises.
