RAJAN TIWARI QUESTIONS THE SDM

23-JUNE-ENG 14

RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

ARA-------------------------A controversial encounter that took place on June 18, 2026, in the Bhojpur district of Bihar has raised serious questions regarding the state's law and order situation and administrative functioning. After meeting the family of Bharat Tiwari—a resident of Bilauti in the Shahpur block—on Saturday, strongman Rajan Tiwari termed the incident a premeditated murder. He explicitly alleged that the entire episode was the result of administrative failure and, specifically, the malicious intent of the Jagdishpur SDM.

Presenting his stance to the media, Rajan Tiwari stated that the Jagdishpur SDM completely misled the police administration. According to him, the SDM distorted facts and provided incorrect information to the DSP and the Station House Officer (SHO). Acting on this misleading information, the police committed an injustice against the young man, ultimately claiming his life.

It is natural for people to wonder who Bharat Tiwari was and what demands he was making that led him to face such humiliating circumstances. According to Rajan Tiwari, Bharat Tiwari was fighting for the rights of the entire community, not just for himself. A resident of Javainia village who had lost everything to the ravages of floods and was living as a displaced person in Bilauti, Bharat Tiwari’s objective was to secure basic amenities for these displaced people.

Bharat Tiwari wanted the administration to ensure land filling (raising ground levels), handpumps, and other basic facilities for the displaced residents before the onset of the floods. When he approached the SDM's office with this legitimate demand, he was allegedly humiliated, verbally abused, and shoved away.

Rajan Tiwari further added that the humiliation ignited Bharat Tiwari's sense of self-respect. The manner in which he challenged the administration while brandishing an illegal pistol evokes memories of the revolutionary heroes Sukhdev, Rajguru, and Bhagat Singh, who had entered the Assembly to make their voices heard. Even if the method used was improper, the video clearly shows that Bharat Tiwari had surrendered his pistol to the police. Subsequently, killing an unarmed young man in broad daylight is unlawful by any standard.

Demanding action from the government regarding this entire episode, Rajan Tiwari stated that the police officers involved in the encounter—or those who ordered it—should be immediately dismissed from service. He argued that if an ordinary citizen commits murder, they are prosecuted under Section 302; why, then, are different standards being applied to a killing committed by the police administration?
