The police have cracked the sensational robbery case—involving a loss of ₹6 lakh—that occurred against a mutton and goat trader within the limits of the Naya Bhojpur police station, achieving this breakthrough in just 48 hours. The most shocking revelation in this case was that a close acquaintance of the victim turned out to be the mastermind behind the entire plot. Acting as an insider, he provided the criminals with precise details regarding the businessman's activities, finances, and location. The police have arrested the prime conspirator and recovered ₹1 lakh from his possession—part of the stolen amount—while continuous raids are underway to apprehend three other criminals involved in the crime. During a press conference held on Monday at the Naya Bhojpur police station, Dumraon SDPO Polast Kumar unveiled the details of the entire case, identifying the arrested accused as Ziaul Islam—alias 'Sipahi'—a resident of Barkisarimpur.
He was an acquaintance of the victim, Raja Qureshi, and it was he who, through a premeditated plan, fed information to the criminals, thereby facilitating the execution of the robbery. According to the police, Raja Qureshi—a resident of Chiktoli in Dumraon—is engaged in the business of buying and selling goats, as well as the mutton trade. In view of the upcoming festival of Bakrid, he was making preparations to purchase goats on a large scale and transport them to Patna. For this very purpose, he had borrowed ₹6 lakh just two days prior. Raja decided to travel to Buxar, accompanied by his acquaintance Ziaul Islam, with the intention of purchasing goats from various villages. The duo reached Buxar, where a deal for four goats was negotiated; however, the purchase could not be finalized as no consensus was reached regarding the price. Subsequently, they began their return journey.
Police investigations revealed that, during this time, Ziaul Islam tipped off his criminal associates, informing them that Raja was carrying a substantial amount of cash and could be easily targeted en route. Acting on this plan, the moment Raja sat down at a *samosa* stall near the vegetable market within the Naya Bhojpur police station area, three criminals riding a motorcycle arrived at the scene. At gunpoint, they robbed Raja of six lakh rupees and fled the spot. At the time of the incident, Ziaul Islam was also present nearby, keeping a close watch on the entire sequence of events. After executing the crime, all the accused fled towards Brahampur, where they divided the stolen money among themselves.
Upon receiving information about the robbery, the police swung into action, and under the directives of SP Shubham Arya, a special team was constituted under the leadership of SDPO Polast Kumar. The team comprised CI Arvind Kumar, Dumraon Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjay Kumar Sinha, Naya Bhojpur SHO Chandan Kumar, Krishnabrahm SHO Ravi Kumar, Suman Kumar of the Naya Bhojpur police station, and other personnel. During the investigation, police grew suspicious when the victim, Raja Qureshi, began constantly altering his statements. As the inconsistencies in his interrogation responses mounted, the police initiated a deeper probe. Based on technical and human intelligence, it became evident to the police that this was not a case of a routine robbery, but rather an internal conspiracy in which the role of Raja's acquaintance, Ziaul, appeared suspicious. Consequently, the police took Ziaul Islam into custody for questioning, during which he confessed to the entire conspiracy.
Acting on the information provided by him, the police have recovered one lakh rupees in cash. However, the other three criminals involved in the crime remain at large. The police have stated that continuous raids are being conducted to apprehend them, and all the accused will be arrested shortly. Additionally, the weapon used in the incident and the remaining stolen cash will also be recovered. SDPO Polast Kumar stated that had the victim provided accurate and clear information to the police right from the start, all the accused would have been apprehended immediately. Due to the changing of statements, the investigation remained off track for some time, which gave the criminals an opportunity to flee. Nevertheless, acting swiftly, the police successfully cracked the entire case.
