NEW DATES ANNOUNCED FOR ELECTION OF EMPOWERED STANDING COMMITTEE

ARA------------------------The Urban Development and Housing Department of the Government of Bihar has released new dates for the election of members to the Empowered Standing Committees across all urban local bodies in the state. According to Letter No. 1908, dated May 19, 2026—issued by the Department's Additional Secretary, Manoj Kumar—these elections will now be conducted from May 26, 2026, to May 31, 2026.

The issued letter states that, in light of Departmental Notification No. 1187 dated April 2, 2026, instructions had previously been issued to conduct the elections between April 15 and April 25, 2026. Subsequently, via Departmental Letter No. 1297 dated April 15, 2026, the election process was postponed until further orders due to unavoidable circumstances.

However, in those urban local bodies where the election process had already been completed by April 15, instructions had already been issued authorizing the duly constituted Empowered Standing Committees to commence their work. Now, having decided to complete the postponed election proceedings, the State Government has directed all District Magistrates and urban local body officials to conclude the election process within the stipulated timeframe. The Department has further stated that all previously issued instructions shall remain in force.
