BHABHUA---------------------------An incident of arson, stemming from a land dispute, occurred in Machhalpur village within the jurisdiction of the Sonhan Police Station in Kaimur district. Belongings kept inside a hut, along with a stack of straw, were reduced to ashes, and both parties involved are now trading mutual accusations. According to available information, a dispute has been brewing between the two factions for a considerable time regarding the assertion of dominance over approximately 1.5 acres of land. The matter took a new turn late Thursday night when a fire broke out in the hut belonging to one of the parties; simultaneously, a stack of straw belonging to the opposing party was also engulfed in the flames. According to video clips recorded at the scene during the arson incident, one party was seen threatening the other with legal action under the 'Dalit Act' while also attempting to intimidate them by flaunting their numerical majority. Arjun Sah and his family members claim that they have been cultivating the said land for centuries and have also maintained a hut on the site for many years. They allege that while they had stepped away to have their meal, the opposing party set fire to their hut, which was situated on the disputed land.
Conversely, the other party asserts that the land is public property and has been forcibly encroached upon by Arjun Sah. They argue that the land should be made available as a playground for children.
Administrative officials state that, in accordance with regulations, land disputes are to be resolved under the directives of the Circle Officer; the determination of whether the land is public or private will be based solely on official records. However, they emphasized that the arson incident and the ensuing conflict are unacceptable. An impartial investigation into the matter is underway to facilitate further legal action. As of the time of filing this report, Jitendra Kumar, the In-charge of the Sonhan Police Station, stated that the land demarcation process would be carried out shortly, paving the way for subsequent legal proceedings.
