PATNA--------------------------A major transformation is set to take place in the age-old traditions of funeral rites. For the first time in Patna, a decision has been taken to construct a modern, gas-based crematorium.
Significant news has emerged from the state capital, Patna, signaling a major shift in the traditional practices surrounding funeral rites. For the first time in the city, a decision has been made to construct a modern, gas-based crematorium—a facility that will be not only clean and hygienic but also environmentally friendly. This new initiative is being spearheaded by the Patna Municipal Corporation, under which the cremation process will be carried out using LPG gas.
On Saturday, during a crucial meeting held at the Municipal Corporation headquarters, a contract agreement regarding this project was signed between the Patna Municipal Corporation and Isha Outreach—an affiliate organization of the Isha Foundation. Mayor Sita Sahu and Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena were present on the occasion; both hailed this initiative as a significant and essential step for the city.
Engineer Bindu Rajak signed the agreement on behalf of the Municipal Corporation, while Yuvarajan A signed on behalf of Isha Outreach. During the proceedings, a comprehensive presentation of the project was also delivered, effectively highlighting the key features and benefits of this modern crematorium.
Mayor Sita Sahu stated that the need of the hour is to make funeral services more organized and hygienic. She explained that, while strictly adhering to traditional customs and rituals, an LPG-based cremation process would be adopted following the initial ceremonial rites. Furthermore, as a measure of religious sensitivity, a limited quantity of wood will also be utilized to ensure that no religious sentiments or beliefs are offended.
The Municipal Commissioner revealed that the high-tech crematorium to be constructed at Digha Ghat will feature four LPG furnaces, a waiting hall, an administrative block, essential amenities, a temple, and aesthetically pleasing landscaping. A significant highlight is that the Bihar government has provided 2.11 acres of land for this project for a period of 33 years at a nominal rent of just ₹1.
