BUXAR--------------------------The Buxar District Congress Committee launched a major public agitation on Friday, demanding the reopening of the Eastern Railway crossing. Led by District President Pankaj Upadhyay, a peaceful march was held from Jyoti Prakash Chowk to the Collectorate. Attended by hundreds of supporters—both men and women—the march culminated in a public meeting at the Collectorate, where issues faced by the general public were prominently highlighted.
Addressing the gathering, District Congress President Pankaj Upadhyay stated that reopening the Eastern Railway crossing is essential to provide relief to the public until the Railway Overbridge (ROB) construction is completed. He noted that the closure of the crossing is causing immense daily hardship for city residents.
He pointed out that pregnant women and patients in labor face severe difficulties in reaching the hospital. Furthermore, ambulances and other emergency services are unable to arrive on time, potentially endangering lives.
Pankaj Upadhyay mentioned that schools are set to reopen soon, and thousands of students will have to take long detours to reach their schools, which will adversely affect their studies. Additionally, the closure is negatively impacting the daily commute and livelihoods of farmers, traders, laborers, and working professionals.
He noted that the season for auspicious and social events is approaching, which will further increase traffic pressure. Currently, there is no convenient or practical alternative route connecting the city, causing great difficulty for the general public.
The Congress District President clarified that the party does not wish to compromise on the quality or safety of the ROB construction work. He stated that while extra time for construction is acceptable, the railway crossing should be opened for public convenience until the bridge is fully safe and operational.
At the conclusion of the event, a Congress delegation submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate, demanding the immediate reopening of the Eastern Railway crossing. The memorandum warned that if the kiosk was not opened by June 15, the Congress would launch a phased agitation.
Hundreds of Congress workers and local citizens, including Harishankar Trivedi, Kameshwar Pandey, Sanjay Pandey, and Rohit Upadhyay, were present on the occasion.
