ARA---------------------------A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in the town of Bihiya, in Bihar's Bhojpur district, where a deranged youth broke into a home and attempted to murder a four-month pregnant woman by attacking her neck with a sharp sickle. However, thanks to the police's swift action, the woman's life was saved, and the accused was arrested on the spot.
The incident occurred late Saturday night in Ward Number 14, under the jurisdiction of the Bihiya police station. The victim has been identified as Anupama Verma, the wife of Ashish Verma, a resident of Kateya Road. She was alone at home at the time of the crime, as other family members had gone to Arrah for a patient's medical treatment.
According to reports, someone knocked on the door late at night. Anupama thought it might be her husband returning home. As soon as she opened the door, the accused—identified as Shrishi Raj—was standing right there. He forcibly barged into the house and, while threatening the woman, ordered her not to raise an alarm.
Subsequently, without giving her any chance to react, he struck the woman on the neck with a sharp sickle he had brought with him. The sudden attack left the woman bleeding profusely and created a scene of panic at the location.
The victim, who is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, stated that the accused had been harassing her for a long time. Whenever she went to drop off or pick up her four-year-old daughter from school, the accused would stalk her. He would pressure her to talk to him against her will and would use abusive language whenever she refused.
According to the victim, the accused carried out this horrific crime out of spite stemming from this resentment.
During the attack, the woman attempted to defend herself, resulting in one of the accused's fingers being severed. The incident has created an atmosphere of terror in the area. At the time of the incident, Bihiya Station House Officer (SHO) Sundareshwar Kumar Das, along with Sub-Inspectors Ram Kumar and Mukesh Kumar, were out on patrol with their team. Upon hearing a commotion near Kateya Road, the police immediately rushed to the scene.
Without delay, the police transported the injured woman to a hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. According to the doctors, the woman's condition remains critical.
Acting with promptness, the police arrested the accused right at the scene of the crime. A sickle—the weapon used in the attack—and a mobile phone were recovered from his possession.
The police have sealed off the crime scene. Bloodstains were found scattered throughout the interior of the house. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been summoned to examine the evidence.
The police have seized the mobile phones belonging to both the accused and the victim. The call records are being analyzed to investigate the nature of any past disputes and to trace the activities of the accused.
The incident has created an atmosphere of panic throughout the entire locality. Local residents are concerned about their safety. The police have stated that every aspect of the case is being thoroughly investigated and that strict legal action will be taken against the accused.
