ARA-------------------------There was a time in Bihar's administrative functioning when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar personally kept a close watch on the progress of development schemes. His working style was noteworthy because he did not limit himself to mere meetings; instead, he would visit sites to assess the actual status of the projects.

He would often hold detailed review meetings with all senior officials from the relevant departments. Subsequently, he would frequently set out—sometimes at night, accompanied by senior officials and minimal security in a single vehicle—to conduct surprise inspections of various projects and sites located within a radius of approximately 50 kilometers from Patna.

The objective of such inspections was not merely to fulfill a formality, but to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reached the public on time, the quality of construction work was maintained, and a sense of accountability was fostered among officials.

Alongside regular administrative review meetings, the culture of surprise inspections at the grassroots level is considered an effective means of strengthening good governance. When the top leadership personally conducts direct inspections of development works, the entire administrative machinery becomes more vigilant and accountable.
