ARA---------------------------A young man lost his life in a severe road accident on Saturday evening on the Patna-Buxar four-lane NH-922, within the jurisdiction of the Shahpur police station. An out-of-control trailer rammed into a father and son riding a motorcycle at a diversion turn near Ahira Baba. In this heart-wrenching incident, the son died on the spot, while the father sustained serious injuries.
According to reports, the deceased has been identified as Dharmendra Yadav, son of Nandji Yadav, a resident of Virpur Tetariya village under the Shahpur police station area. Around 6 PM on the day of the incident, Dharmendra Yadav was taking his father, Nandji Yadav, back to their ancestral village, Virpur, from Ara on a motorcycle. As they reached the diversion near Ahira Baba—located before Shahpur—an out-of-control trailer coming from the opposite direction struck them violently.
The impact was so severe that Dharmendra Yadav, who was driving the motorcycle, died on the spot, while his father, Nandji Yadav, was critically injured. MLA Rakesh Ranjan Ojha, who was passing by, spotted the accident victims; he immediately stopped his vehicle and arranged for both injured men to be sent to the hospital for advanced medical treatment.
Immediately after the accident, locals apprehended the trailer and its driver at the scene and informed the police. Angered by the incident, locals staged a protest by blocking the road at the site. Upon receiving news of the accident and the blockade, former MLA Rahul Tiwari and Bhojpur-Buxar MLC Sonu Rai rushed to the scene. The public representatives acknowledged the anguish of the villagers and offered their condolences. The crowd's anger subsided after assurances were given that their demands would be conveyed to the administration, and the road blockade was subsequently cleared. Meanwhile, the deceased's brother-in-law, Dharmendra Kumar, stated that the two had come to the Ara court on a motorcycle on Saturday morning for some work. On Saturday evening, while they were returning to their village on the motorcycle, he was following them on another bike. As they reached the Shahpur turn on the Ara-Buxar four-lane highway, an unidentified vehicle collided with their motorcycle, leaving both of them critically injured. Family members rushed them to Sadar Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared Dharmendra Yadav dead upon examination.
The injured father, Nandji Yadav, was referred to Patna for advanced care after receiving first aid; however, the family is currently having him treated at a private hospital in the Mahavir Tola area of the city. Subsequently, the police conducted a post-mortem examination of the body.
It is reported that the deceased was the elder of two brothers. His family includes his mother Maya Devi, wife Indu Devi, a son named Prince, and a daughter named Preeti. The incident has plunged the family into deep grief; his mother, wife, and other family members are inconsolable.
