ARA-----------------------A newlywed woman died under suspicious circumstances on Tuesday afternoon in Dev Pokhara village, located within the Sikrahata Police Station area of Bhojpur district. Her maternal family has accused her husband and other in-laws of strangling her to death over demands for dowry.
The deceased has been identified as Nibha Devi (21), wife of Harendra Kumar Sah, a resident of Dev Pokhara village. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Sikrahata police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, Deepak Kumar, the deceased's brother-in-law, stated that Vijay Sah—a resident of Kanchan Bigha village under the Kachhwan police station area in Rohtas district—had married off his daughter, Nibha Kumari, to Harendra Kumar Sah of Dev Pokhara village on April 25, following Hindu rituals.
According to the family, gifts worth approximately two lakh rupees in cash, a motorcycle, and other items were given at the time of the wedding. It is alleged that shortly after the marriage, her husband and in-laws began harassing Nibha Kumari, demanding additional money and goods.
Her family members say that whenever Nibha called home, she would mention being harassed by her in-laws over money-related issues.
On Tuesday afternoon, her family received news of Nibha's death. They subsequently arrived at her in-laws' house in Dev Pokhara village, where they found her body lying on the floor of the veranda. They immediately informed the police.
Deepak Kumar has accused the husband and in-laws of strangling her to death over dowry demands. However, the actual cause of the incident will only be clear after the police investigation is concluded.
Sanoj Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sikrahta, stated that an FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team was summoned to the scene and has collected evidence. He noted that the family has alleged murder by strangulation against the in-laws.
According to the police, the in-laws fled the scene after the incident and are currently being sought. While the process of sending the body for a post-mortem examination is underway, the police are investigating all aspects of the case.
Nibha Kumari was reportedly the youngest of four sisters and one brother; she had been married for about five months.
