PATNA------------------------A new twist has emerged in the Jamui student molestation case. An FIR has been registered against a stenographer from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) for posting photos on social media showing the meeting between the minor victim and Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. The police have taken this action under the POCSO Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the IT Act.
It is alleged that photos of the meeting with the Jamui molestation victim and her family were posted from Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary's official social media handle. However, the photos were removed from the handle shortly after being posted. The opposition had raised questions against the government and the Chief Minister regarding the public disclosure of these photos.
Sagar Prasad, a stenographer in the Chief Minister's Office, has been named in the case. It is alleged that Sagar Prasad, who manages the Chief Minister's social media handle, was the one who posted the photos. The police are now investigating the matter.
According to the FIR registered at the Secretariat Police Station, the case against the accused stenographer, Sagar Prasad, has been filed under Section 23 of the POCSO Act, Section 73 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Sections 66(e) and 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act. The complaint states that posting the photos compromised the privacy and dignity of the minor molestation victim and risked revealing her identity.
As per the details of the case, the victim of the Jamui molestation incident and her family had met Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. Photos of this meeting were posted on the Chief Minister's official social media handle.
The post showed the Chief Minister with the victim and her family. Questions arose after the photos appeared on social media. The post was removed after the controversy escalated. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) targeted the Chief Minister and the state government over this issue. The opposition argued that caution should have been exercised regarding the sensitive matter of the minor victim's identity.
Misa Bharti, the MP from Pataliputra and daughter of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, visited the Secretariat police station late Friday evening regarding this issue, accompanied by some party supporters. She demanded that an FIR be registered against Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, but no action was taken on her application. Misa Bharti maintained that revealing the identity of a minor victim constitutes a violation of the law.
The opposition had been demanding the registration of an FIR against Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. However, instead of naming the Chief Minister in the case, the police registered an FIR against Sagar Prasad, a stenographer in the Chief Minister's office. The FIR accuses Sagar Prasad of posting the photographs from the Chief Minister's official social media handle.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had targeted Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary over the photographs, alleging that making the minor victim's identity public was a serious matter. He had also warned that he would take legal action regarding the issue.
The RJD asserts that protecting the identity of minor victims is crucial under the POCSO Act. The party alleged that posting the photographs from the Chief Minister's official social media handle created a risk of the victim's identity being exposed.
The incident stems from a case of molestation involving a minor female student in Jamui. Following the incident, the victim and her family met with Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. It is alleged that photographs taken during this meeting were shared via the Chief Minister's official social media handle.
After the photographs surfaced, the opposition questioned how information revealing the minor victim's identity had been made public. The social media post was removed after the controversy escalated. Misa Bharti had arrived at the Secretariat police station with a formal complaint against the Chief Minister regarding this matter; however, the police had already taken action by registering an FIR against Sagar Prasad, the stenographer in the Chief Minister's office, and had initiated an investigation.
