BHABHUA-------------------------------Reports of cattle smuggling via the river route have emerged following a drop in the water level of the Karmanasha River, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Durgawati police station in Kaimur district. The movement of cattle across the Karmanasha River—which serves as the boundary between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar—has sparked concern among local residents. Villagers allege that the movement of these animals is damaging their crops, and further claim that those who attempt to intervene are being threatened by the smugglers.
According to locals, the end of the monsoon season and the subsequent decline in the river's water level have made it easier to transport cattle across the river. It is alleged that smugglers bring cattle from the Uttar Pradesh side into Bihar by crossing the Karmanasha River, after which the animals are loaded onto vehicles and transported to other destinations.
The latest incident is reported to have occurred near the Larma Pump Canal, within the Durgawati police station area. Locals state that cattle were seen being brought into Bihar from the direction of Chirai village in Uttar Pradesh. Expressing their concern, the villagers have demanded immediate action from the police administration.
The villagers point out that the entry of these animals into their fields is causing damage to crops, resulting in financial losses for the farmers. Furthermore, many are afraid to speak out openly, fearing threats from the smugglers for opposing their activities.
Local residents have urged the police to increase surveillance along the river route, conduct patrols in vulnerable areas, and investigate the reports of cattle smuggling to take appropriate action. It remains to be seen what measures the administration will adopt to curb this alleged smuggling and protect the farmers' crops from further damage.
