ARA------------------------The history of India's independence is a story of struggle, sacrifice, sacrifice and indomitable courage of which every Indian is proud. Whenever the country's independence is discussed, the names of Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and other great freedom fighters naturally come up. But the story of this great fight for independence was not limited to only a few big names. There were thousands of such heroes in every village and town of the country, who dedicated everything for the motherland without any fame or personal interest.

Late Brahmadev Chaudhary, resident of Sansarpur in Khagaria district, was one such freedom fighter, whose story is very important to reach today's generation. According to available family and local accounts, he played an active role against the British rule during the Quit India Movement. His life is not just a story of political protest, but a living example of the struggle, torture and sacrifice of that era.

It is said that the administration was troubled by his activities against British rule. His house in Sansarpur was raided and during the search, it is mentioned that 47 guns were recovered. This incident highlights the seriousness of the political environment of that time and the local conflicts associated with the freedom movement. Brahmadev Chaudhary opposed the British rule as well as its local allies and informers. His aim was not to achieve personal gain, but to free the country from foreign rule.

The most poignant and inspiring episode of his life is related to the arrest of his parents. The British authorities arrested his father Lakha Chaudhary and mother to put pressure on him. The British hoped that the arrest of the parents would break them and force them to give information about their comrades and activities related to the movement.

But Brahmadev Chaudhary foiled this strategy of the British. According to family details, after getting information about the arrest of his parents, he himself approached the British police. He asked the authorities to release his parents and do whatever they wanted with them. This was not the courage of any ordinary person. This was the tenacity of a man who put the nation above personal life.

After this, there is mention of his being kept in custody for about 11 days and being subjected to inhuman torture. According to family memories, his hair was pulled out and even the nails on his hands and feet were pulled out. But even British torture could not break his courage. During interrogation he refused to give information about his associates. His alleged reply was that he did not know anything and if the British officers wanted to kill him then they could kill him, but he would not betray his comrades.

He was later sentenced to life imprisonment. According to accounts of his life, he was kept in the central jails of Bhagalpur, Hazaribagh, Buxar and Muzaffarpur. Even imprisonment in four different jails, harsh conditions and long sentences could not change his resolve. Accounts related to the family also mention that during his stay in jail, he was brought to Sansarpur on Sundays under tight security and taken back to jail before sunset.

Another aspect of Brahmadev Chaudhary's life holds a special message for today's society. After independence, the government made pension arrangements for the freedom fighters to honor and support them, but it is said that they refused to take the government pension. He believed that it was his utmost duty to fight for the independence of the country and it was not fair for him to expect any financial benefit in return.

Today, when in public life the words of service, sacrifice and national interest are often tested on the basis of selfishness and profit, then the life of Brahmadev Choudhary explains to us the real meaning of national service. For him the freedom movement was not a medium for any position, award or financial gain. That was his religion and duty towards the motherland.

Even after independence, his life remained dedicated to society and education. According to family and local people, he inspired the youth for education and tried to make the society aware. His view was that independence not only means freedom from British rule, but also creating a society that is educated, aware, self-reliant and aware of its rights.

It is unfortunate that the stories of many freedom fighters like Brahmadev Choudhary are today limited only to the memories of families and the tongues of local people. There is not enough mention of his contribution in history books. This is not only injustice to those fighters, but also injustice to our future generations.

There is a need to secure government documents, jail records, letters, memoirs and family evidence related to the lives of such freedom fighters. The contribution of local freedom fighters should be taught in schools and colleges. Libraries, memorials or museums should be established in their names at village and district levels, so that the new generation can know what the price of independence was. Institutions like National Archives can play an important role in this direction The story of Brahmadev Chaudhary is not merely the story of one individual; it is the story of an India where thousands of ordinary people displayed extraordinary courage. Some endured the torture of imprisonment, others embraced the gallows; some lost their families, while others dedicated their entire youth to the nation.

We have inherited our freedom, but we have no right to forget the price paid for it. Remembering unsung heroes like Brahmadev Chaudhary is not just an act of paying tribute; it is an act of doing justice to history. On Independence Day, as the entire nation salutes the Tricolour, we must also remember those countless faces whose sacrifices and selflessness transformed this flag into the identity of an independent India.

These forgotten pages of history must no longer be allowed to gather dust. Unearthing them and passing their stories on to the next generation would be our true tribute to those great freedom fighters.
