ARA-------------------------For nearly a year, heavy vehicles have been diverted through rural roads due to the closure of the Rail Overbridge (ROB) at Bihiya Market, located at the Bihiya block headquarters. The constant pressure from heavy vehicles has damaged several rural roads in the area. Furthermore, the movement of large vehicles on these routes poses a constant risk of major accidents.
Taking the issue seriously, Shahpur MLA Rakesh Ranjan has written to the Chief Minister, demanding the construction of an alternative route as well as the repair of the damaged roads in the area. In his letter, the MLA stated that due to the closure of the Railway Overbridge (ROB) at Bihiya market, heavy vehicles have been diverted through rural roads for the past year. This has placed immense pressure on these rural roads, resulting in extensive damage to many of them.
The constant movement of heavy vehicles through rural areas is causing commuting difficulties for locals and posing a risk of accidents. Considering these issues, the MLA has requested the Chief Minister to authorize the construction of three key roads.
The MLA has demanded the construction of a bypass route connecting the NH-84 (via the Kateya-Nauseratar-Biyada Factory route) to the Bihiya-Jagdishpur road. This would prevent heavy vehicles from passing through rural settlements and narrow village roads. He has also requested the construction of a road connecting the Kateya railway crossing to the Bihiya ROB. He argues that constructing this route would streamline traffic in the area and provide an alternative path for heavy vehicles.
MLA Rakesh Ranjan has also urged the Chief Minister to reconstruct all rural roads in the Shahpur Assembly constituency that have been damaged by the movement of heavy vehicles. He noted that these roads have deteriorated over time due to the heavy vehicular load, making reconstruction essential to ensure safe and convenient travel for villagers.
The MLA has requested the Chief Minister to prioritize this issue and take the necessary steps to facilitate the construction of the aforementioned roads. This letter was submitted to the Chief Minister on August 10, 2026.
Potential Impact: Constructing these alternative routes would reduce the necessity for heavy vehicles to traverse rural roads while the Bihiya ROB remains closed. This is expected to alleviate traffic pressure on rural roads and lower the risk of road accidents.
