ARA---------------------------Awadhesh Dixit, the 2019-batch IPS officer who ran a school for children from Muzaffarpur’s red-light area while serving as City SP there in 2024, has been appointed the new Superintendent of Police of Bhojpur. He takes over from Mr. Raj, who has been transferred to Rohtas after a 23-month tenure. Dixit was previously posted in the Personnel-1 division at Police Headquarters.
Originally from Rajasthan, Dixit is an IIT Bombay graduate who chose the Bihar cadre after clearing the UPSC examination. His first posting was as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Begusarai, followed by ASP in Paliganj, Patna. As City SP in Muzaffarpur, he launched “Police Pathshala,” a school for children from the red-light area. He later served as SP of Gopalganj and Lakhisarai before being given charge of Bhojpur. As the new SP, he faces the task of advancing investigations into pending high-profile cases while maintaining law and order and controlling crime in the district.
Dixit’s love story with fellow IPS officer Kamya Mishra has gone viral on social media following his new appointment. The couple first met in 2019 at the IPS training academy in Mussoorie. Their initial meeting lasted only 10–15 minutes. Dixit later joked that it was love at first sight — that his heart had been “lathi-charged” the moment he saw her — but his shy nature prevented him from expressing his feelings.
Kamya Mishra took the initiative. During a field visit in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, she proposed to him. Having no ring at the time, she fashioned one out of grass and slipped it onto his finger as a “promise ring.” That grass ring became the first symbol of their relationship. Their bond deepened during training in Hyderabad, where they came to understand each other better. Kamya has said that Awadhesh was extremely quiet and reserved, and that had she not proposed, it might have taken him a long time to open up.
They had a court marriage in 2020, followed by a destination wedding in Udaipur. Kamya, originally from Odisha, also chose the Bihar cadre after clearing the UPSC. She cracked the exam at the age of just 22, securing All India Rank 172. Though initially allotted the Himachal cadre, she was transferred to Bihar after marriage. She resigned from the police service in 2024 to take over the family business; her last posting was as Rural SP in Darbhanga.
Outgoing SP Mr. Raj, also a 2019-batch Bihar-cadre officer, served nearly 23 months in Bhojpur. During his tenure, police actions on law-and-order issues drew significant attention. Two major high-profile cases arose — the encounter of Bharat Tiwari (Bilauti village, Shahpur police station area) and the mysterious disappearance of Sanoj Kumar (Ganj village, Bihiya police station area) from Excise Department custody. Serious questions were raised about the police’s role, with allegations levelled against SP Raj. Investigations into both cases continue at the judicial level and have reached the Patna High Court.
