Ambulance Stuck in Traffic Jam, Baby Girl Born Inside; ASHA Worker Helps Deliver Baby, Mother and Newborn Safe

Budaun: A pregnant woman delivered a baby girl inside an ambulance after it got stuck in a traffic jam at the Adhauli railway crossing on the Ujhani-Kadarchowk road on Monday. The woman's labour pain intensified while the ambulance was stranded, leaving no option but to conduct the delivery inside the vehicle with the help of an ASHA worker accompanying her. Both the mother and the newborn are reported to be safe and healthy.

The woman, identified as Usha Devi, wife of Nanhey and a resident of Achoura village, went into labour suddenly on Monday. Her family immediately called an ambulance to take her to a Community Health Centre (CHC). However, while the ambulance was on its way, an e-rickshaw collided with the boom barrier at the Ujhani-Kadarchowk railway crossing, damaging it.

The broken barrier disrupted traffic, resulting in a long queue of vehicles on both sides of the railway crossing. The ambulance carrying Usha Devi was also caught in the jam.

As the traffic failed to move for a considerable period and Usha Devi's labour pain intensified, her condition began to worsen. The ASHA worker accompanying her stepped in and assisted in conducting the delivery inside the ambulance. Usha Devi subsequently delivered a baby girl.

After the traffic jam was cleared, the ambulance was allowed to proceed to the hospital. The mother and newborn were reported to be in stable condition.

Traffic Disrupted For 1.5-2 Hours

The damaged boom barrier brought traffic movement to a halt for around 1.5 to two hours, with long queues of vehicles building up on both sides of the crossing. Commuters faced considerable inconvenience due to the disruption.

On receiving information, a team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) reached the spot and took steps to restore traffic movement. The RPF also detained the e-rickshaw driver allegedly involved in the incident.
