BUXAR--------------------------Outrage has spread among villagers following police action taken in the wake of a firing incident in Banarpur village, which stemmed from a contractual dispute linked to the Chausa Thermal Power Plant. On Thursday morning, irate villagers blocked the Chausa-Mohania road and staged a vigorous protest against the police administration.
The villagers allege that the police disregarded established protocols while arresting Alok Tiwari, a resident of Banarpur, late on Wednesday night. They contend that the operation—conducted at midnight by breaking down the doors and windows of the house—was not only unlawful but has also created an atmosphere of fear and tension within the village.
Questioning the attitude of the police, the protesters stated that Banarpur village is consistently subjected to harsh treatment. The villagers allege that even in minor incidents, the police vandalize homes and behave inappropriately toward women.
Munna Tiwari, a farmer from the village, remarked that the police take swift action against the vulnerable and farmers, while showing leniency toward individuals with domineering tendencies. Accusing Anand Rai of illegal mining and soil transportation, he noted that protests against such activities often result in incidents like broad-daylight shootings, yet the police fail to demonstrate any strictness in their response.
The villagers have demanded an impartial inquiry into the entire matter, to be conducted in the presence of senior officials, so that the truth may come to light. Meanwhile, Shambhu Bhagat, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Muffasil police station, clarified that the police do not operate under any external pressure. He stated that FIRs have been registered by both parties involved in the firing incident, and legal action is being taken strictly in accordance with the law.
