ARA-----------------------Demands for justice in the high-profile Bharat Bhushan Tiwari encounter case in Bhojpur district are intensifying. While preparations are underway to hold a 'Mahapanchayat' (grand assembly) in Bilauti village on June 24, the Bihar Police have suspended five personnel and registered two separate FIRs following an investigation. Meanwhile, the Bihar State Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance of the matter and sought a detailed report from the Chief Secretary, the DGP, and the Bhojpur SP within four weeks.

Preparations for the Mahapanchayat scheduled for June 24 in Bilauti village (under the Shahpur police station area) are in full swing. The organizing committee claims that a large number of people from various states—including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan—will attend the event. Arrangements are reportedly being made to accommodate around one lakh (100,000) people.

Local resident Pankaj Tripathi alleged that the expected action has not yet been taken in a case where the Bihar government should have intervened seriously. He stated that no government official or employee has even met the aggrieved family. Consequently, villagers and supporters have decided to determine their future course of action through the Mahapanchayat.

Meanwhile, Bharat Bhushan Tiwari's father has consistently leveled serious allegations against the Bhojpur police. He reiterated, "On the day of the encounter, the police kept me locked in the station all day, while on the other hand, they murdered my son. This is a crime. The law will certainly punish this crime. People stand with my late son. I will definitely get justice."

He stated that the conference would discuss ways to effectively advance the fight for justice and secure justice for those displaced from Jawainiya village. According to the organizers, the Mahapanchayat is not limited to any specific caste, religion, or community; people from all sections of society who support the demand for justice against the alleged injustice in this case are welcome to attend. The organizing committee has also clarified that while representatives of political parties may attend the event, no political party flags or banners will be displayed at the venue. The event is being organized with the cooperation of villagers, the family of the deceased, and well-wishers from across the country.

Meanwhile, the Bihar Police has taken major departmental action following an investigation into the Bharat Tiwari encounter case. ADG (Law and Order) Sudhanshu Kumar stated that the investigation revealed serious negligence on the part of police officials. Based on these findings, a Station House Officer (SHO), two Sub-Inspectors, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), and a constable have been suspended with immediate effect.

According to the ADG, the concerned police personnel failed to exercise the required vigilance while monitoring and managing the accused on June 16. Lapses were found at multiple levels of the security arrangement, prompting the departmental action. Two separate FIRs have also been registered in the matter to ensure a fair and comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the incident.

"The investigation is seeking to determine at which level the lapse occurred during the sequence of events and who is responsible for it. Further legal and departmental action will be taken based on the investigation's findings. Police Headquarters is monitoring the entire matter." – Sudhanshu Kumar, ADG (Law and Order), Bihar.

Separately, the Bihar State Human Rights Commission has taken cognizance of the alleged encounter case in Bhojpur district. Hearing a petition filed by human rights advocate S.K. Jha, the Commission issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Bihar, the Director General of Police (DGP), and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bhojpur. The Commission has sought a detailed report within four weeks.

Commission Chairperson Justice Anant Manohar Badar has scheduled the next review of the case for July 13, 2026. Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, a resident of Bilauti village, reportedly died in a police encounter.

Advocate S.K. Jha has filed separate petitions with the National Human Rights Commission in New Delhi and the Bihar State Human Rights Commission in Patna. The petition demands the registration of an FIR against the police personnel involved in the encounter, an investigation into the matter under the supervision of a retired judge, action against the guilty, and appropriate compensation for the victim's family.

The Bharat Tiwari encounter case has intensified following preparations for a *Mahapanchayat* (grand assembly), demands for action against the police personnel, and the intervention of the Human Rights Commission. All eyes are now fixed on the *Mahapanchayat* scheduled for June 24 and the Human Rights Commission's next hearing on July 13.
