PATNA-----------------------The Jan Suraaj Party has named Prashant Kishor as its candidate for the Bankipur Assembly by-election. Party State President Manoj Bharti announced this at a press conference. Speaking at the party's Patna office, Bharti stated that the core committee had unanimously decided that Prashant Kishor would be the Jan Suraaj Party's candidate for the Bankipur by-election.
Following this, Prashant Kishor declared that he would do whatever was necessary to defeat the BJP in the Bankipur by-election. PK expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all party office-bearers and workers for entrusting him with this responsibility and placing their faith in him. "First and foremost, I want to assure you that for the past four years, Jan Suraaj has been my life. I have no other objective for at least the next ten years until this vision is realized," he said.
PK further stated that he views the responsibility of contesting the election from Bankipur as a step in that very direction. He noted that after the results in November 2025, there was a sense of sadness and disappointment among the lakhs of people who had connected with the ideas and efforts of Jan Suraaj. People believe that a victory for Jan Suraaj in the Bankipur election would provide a massive boost to reviving the movement for change in Bihar. "I accept this responsibility with sincerity and thank all the leaders and workers. I also acknowledge the voters of Bankipur who, over the past month or so—whether personally or through our workers—have urged that Prashant Kishor must step into the electoral fray himself to bring about change in Bihar. I will strive to contest the Bankipur election with complete sincerity and commitment to this vision." If I receive your blessings and emerge victorious, I assure you that I will strive to work in alignment with your sentiments, aspirations, and expectations.
Prashant Kishor stated that the Bankipur election serves as a public referendum on the performance, conduct, character, public image, policies, and governance protocols of the NDA government—which has been in power for six months under the leadership of Samrat Choudhary. If the BJP wins the Bankipur election, I would readily acknowledge that the people of Bihar endorse their policies, their leadership, and their government. Conversely, if the BJP loses in Bankipur, the government must accept that the conduct, character, and image they project—as well as the system they are running—are, to some extent, unacceptable to the people of Bihar. Samrat Choudhary has become the BJP's Chief Minister for the first time; we have previously stated clearly in press conferences that we lack faith in his conduct, character, and public image. A vast section of the Bihari public does not trust him; he was not elected to the post but was appointed CM through a back-door process. It was Nitish Kumar whom the public had elected as Chief Minister. The people of Bankipur—who are among the most enlightened and prosperous in Bihar—bear the responsibility of electing the most capable candidate and delivering a verdict on the government and its policies. While this seat alone will not change the government, it will certainly alter the course of Bihar's politics. If you wish to change the direction of politics in Bihar, ensure the victory of Jan Suraaj in Bankipur.
Present on the occasion were Rambali Chandravanshi, Kishore Kumar Munna, KC Sinha, MLC Afaq Ahmed, Kumar Saurav, Subhash Kushwaha, Sarwar Ali, Indu Sinha, Obaidur Rahman, JP Singh, Rakesh Patel, and others.
