ARA---------------------------A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Patna High Court regarding the death of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari—a resident of Bilauti village under the Shahpur police station area of Bhojpur district—in a police encounter. Advocate Mukesh Kumar has demanded an impartial investigation into the matter and legal action against the responsible police officials.

The advocate has requested an early hearing on the PIL before the bench of Patna High Court Chief Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai. The petition seeks an independent inquiry into the incident.

According to the petitioner, a video had surfaced on social media prior to the incident, allegedly showing a pistol in Bharat Bhushan Tiwari's hand. The advocate questioned why no action was taken to arrest the youth or seize the weapon at that time if he was indeed armed.

Bharat Bhushan Tiwari's family alleges that this was a fake encounter. They claim the youth was unarmed at the time of the incident and had surrendered. Following protests by the family, the police had also registered an FIR against the deceased's father, brother, and some local residents.

Meanwhile, the police claim that Bharat Bhushan Tiwari allegedly fired 10 to 12 rounds. The police stated they returned fire in self-defense, resulting in the youth's death.

The incident occurred on June 17, 2026, in Bilauti village under the Shahpur police station area of Bhojpur district. Questions have been raised at both political and social levels regarding the matter following Bharat Bhushan Tiwari's death during the police operation.

As an initial measure following the incident, four policemen have been suspended. Reports indicate that the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shahpur police station has also been suspended.

The state government has announced that the matter will be investigated by a retired High Court judge. However, the petitioner points out that despite the announcement of a judicial inquiry on Saturday, no formal notification has been issued yet. The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) also seeks the provision of security for Bharat Bhushan Tiwari's family. Advocate Mukesh Kumar stated that the truth behind the entire matter would only come to light through an impartial investigation and action against the guilty.
