ONE DAY CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP ON CHILD RIGHT

17-MAY-ENG 2

RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

SASARAM-------------------------The workshop, held at the Police Center in Dehri, Rohtas, was organized and coordinated by the 'Law Foundation.' It was inaugurated jointly by Headquarters DSP Lalan Kumar and the Director of the Law Foundation, Dr. Praveen Kumar.

"The name, designation, and mobile number of the Child Welfare Police Officer (CWPO) will be prominently displayed at all police stations," stated DSP Lalan Kumar.

The primary objective is to train the police to adopt a legal, humane, and child-friendly approach when handling cases involving children. Supreme Court Advocate Anant Kumar Asthana highlighted the crucial roles played by the Juvenile Justice Board, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and the Child Courts. He emphasized that the role of the police extends beyond merely initiating legal action; it also encompasses rehabilitation and protection. Sunil Jha remarked that understanding child justice laws is a moral imperative, noting that procedural errors can significantly compromise the delivery of justice.

Santosh Upadhyay identified keeping children out of jail as a top priority. He offered specific suggestions, including the installation of a CWPO information board at every police station and ensuring that a copy of 'Form-B'—as mandated under the POCSO Act—is forwarded to the CWC within 24 hours. Dr. Praveen Kumar stressed the necessity of regular training for police personnel, given the constantly evolving nature of the law. CWC member Dadan Pandey observed that the protection of children is not merely a legal obligation but also a social responsibility, advocating for an approach characterized by dialogue and empathy rather than strict rigidity.

The participants collectively pledged to work towards strengthening the child justice system. The vote of thanks was delivered by Advocate Santosh Kumar.
