SASARAM--------------------------An Enforcement Sub-Inspector in the Transport Department performs various duties, such as inspecting vehicles on the road, ensuring compliance with Motor Vehicle Acts, checking permits, and curbing overloading. While these activities generate significant revenue for the government, there are some individuals who, in their eagerness to boost their own earnings, cause financial loss to the state exchequer. Approximately a month ago, similar allegations were leveled against Ghanshyam Kumar, an Enforcement Sub-Inspector in the Rohtas District Transport Department; he appeared more concerned with personal revenue collection than with government revenue. An audio clip went viral in which he was heard negotiating a deal—settling for ₹25,000 instead of the required ₹95,000—to release a vehicle that had been impounded by his personal driver. Taking cognizance of the matter, the District Transport Officer constituted a four-member committee, but the committee's report is still awaited. When this correspondent asked the District Transport Officer via phone about the further action being taken in the case, he stated that they were waiting for the committee's report. He added that if the viral audio is found to be authentic, action is certain.
