BUXAR---------------------------Despite the implementation of the liquor prohibition law in Bihar, the network of illegal smuggling shows no signs of abating. On Monday morning in Buxar district, the cunning tactics of smugglers once again raised questions regarding the efficacy of the inspection system. Amidst claims of strict scrutiny, a truck laden with liquor—having arrived from Uttar Pradesh—managed to evade the checkpoint and enter the city.

According to reports, a 12-wheel truck (bearing registration number UP 65 DT 2377) was found standing abandoned under suspicious circumstances near Dani Kutiya on the Buxar-Chausa route. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Inspector Priyanka Kumari conducted a raid around 5:00 AM, under the directives of Excise Superintendent Ashraf Jamal.

During the inspection, a massive quantity of both foreign-made and country liquor was recovered from the truck. The team seized 1,248 bottles of '8 PM' whisky and 1,248 bottles of 'Officer's Choice' whisky, amounting to a total volume of 449.280 liters. Additionally, 1,710 bottles of 'Dabang' brand country liquor were recovered, totaling 342 liters.

The Excise Superintendent stated that no individuals were present in the truck at the time of the raid. The truck and the liquor have been seized, and a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the truck owner under the provisions of the Excise Act. It is noteworthy that the stretch of land extending from Dani Kutiya to Kritpura has long been identified as a sensitive zone for liquor smuggling. Smugglers frequently offload liquor from trucks in this area and transport it to safe hideouts using smaller vehicles. A similar incident came to light in 2025, wherein liquor was being transported using luxury cars.
