FORMER RAW AGENT QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ROLE OF THE SP

RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

ARA----------------------------The justice system is the backbone of any democracy. When the guardians of the law themselves appear to take on the role of exploiters, it is natural for faith in the system to waver. The case involving the alleged police encounter of Bharat Tiwari in Bilauti village—under the jurisdiction of the Shahpur police station in Bihar's Bhojpur district—has become a topic of national discussion. The administrative approach to this matter, which involves deep human sensitivities, is extremely concerning.

Former RAW Agent Lucky Bisht commented on the episode, noting that a video had gone viral across both social media and mainstream media. In the video, the Bhojpur SP was seen visiting the home of the late Bharat Tiwari and meeting his family members. He assured the media that an impartial judicial inquiry would be conducted into the entire matter and that no aspect would be overlooked. At the time, this move was appreciated, as the public perceived the administration as being sensitive to the situation. However, revelations made by Lucky Bisht have exposed a bitter truth hidden behind this entire incident.

According to Lucky Bisht, the reality behind the formalities displayed on camera is starkly different. It is alleged that the SP took Bharat Tiwari’s younger brother, Chandan—a student merely 16 or 17 years of age—aside and told him to "stop all this," while also threatening him by labeling his brother a criminal. Making such remarks to a minor student not only violates the dignity of the office but also makes a mockery of the rule of law. When the boy asks why he is being threatened, the response cites his brother's past and alleged crimes.

Former RAW Agent Lucky Bisht stated that an IPS officer is expected to be a pillar of justice. If someone harbors hope for justice following their brother's death, intimidating or threatening them amounts to a direct attempt to influence the investigative process. Lucky Bisht has questioned whether an impartial investigation is possible while an officer who went to a minor's home and threatened him remains involved.

Does the administration truly intend to deliver justice to the aggrieved family of Bharat Tiwari? Such conduct was not expected from the Bhojpur SP; the first step must be to remove officers whose impartiality is under scrutiny from the investigation. Lucky Bisht has challenged that if the SP requires evidence, he is ready to provide it.

The former RAW agent remarked that this incident compels us to engage in deep introspection. We often blame cross-border enemies—such as the ISI or other external forces—for threats to our security; however, when individuals within the system abuse their power to terrorize ordinary citizens, it is nothing short of a major misfortune for the country. The SP must ensure that the public's faith in the law and the police force remains intact. Justice must not only be served but must also be seen to be served.
