PATNA--------------------------Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has described Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's two-decade tenure as Bihar's "golden era." Speaking to the media during a private event, Manjhi not only discussed the fundamental reforms undertaken in the state, but also highlighted the significant improvements made in the state.
Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi lavishly praised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's 20-year tenure. He said that Nitish Kumar has taken Bihar out of the darkness of "jungle raj" and taken it to new heights of development. According to Manjhi, the Home Minister's description of Nitish Kumar's tenure as Bihar's "golden era" is completely justified, as the state has made all-round progress during this period.
Detailing the development works, Manjhi highlighted the improvements in the state of electricity and roads. He said that Bihar, which once had only 700 megawatts of electricity, now has an uninterrupted supply of 9,000 megawatts. Additionally, the distance from Gaya to Patna, which once took four hours, has now been reduced to just 1.5 hours due to improved roads.
Jitan Ram Manjhi described Nitish Kumar as a visionary social reformer, saying that he brought into the mainstream the 49% of society (women), who were once considered household objects. Schemes like bicycles and uniforms for girls not only promoted their education but also provided them with the opportunity to live with self-respect. According to Manjhi, social progress is impossible without the development of women.
Manjhi, highlighting Nitish Kumar's upcoming political decisions, said that he had always desired to be a part of all four major constitutional institutions of democracy—the Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council, Lok Sabha, and Rajya Sabha. Since he has previously been a member of all three houses, joining the Rajya Sabha is a major step towards achieving this personal and political goal.
At the end of his address, Manjhi emphasized that despite his 20-year tenure, Nitish Kumar has never been tainted with corruption or any other allegations. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to him for his "unblemished" and "golden" journey. He expressed confidence that Nitish Kumar's experience will continue to serve the state and the country in the future.
