EMPLOYEES MUST GET THEIR RIGHTFUL ENTITLEMENTS

RAJIV NAYAN AGRAWAL

ARA---------------------------After being nominated the President of the AMC Employees’ Union, Pushpa Singh said that "Today, the first meeting of our union for the year 2026 was convened. For a long time, there has been a growing sentiment among the employees that a strong union is essential to champion their rights and entitlements. With this objective in mind, elections were conducted today, resulting in the selection of colleagues for various positions—including President, Vice-President, Secretary, Office Secretary, and Treasurer—among others. The committee now comprises both male and female employees.

She further noted that the Central Government has already fixed a wage rate of ₹783 for laborers. Based on this precedent, we are putting forth the demand that this rate be implemented in Bihar as well, ensuring that the employees of the Ara Municipal Corporation also benefit from it. Given the persistently rising inflation, it has become extremely difficult for employees to make ends meet on their current salaries; indeed, securing even a single proper meal a day has become a struggle.

Highlighting the key demands, she pointed out that while employees who work on Sundays receive remuneration, those who do not work on that day receive no pay. Since a weekly day of rest is mandated for everyone, Municipal Corporation employees, too, should be granted a paid weekly holiday. This would enable employees to spend quality time with their families, allowing them to return to work the following day with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

She unequivocally declared that this struggle is not merely for a single individual, but for the entire community of employees. The Municipal Corporation Employees' Union constitutes a family, and this movement represents a fight for the rights and welfare of every employee and their family members.

Should the Municipal Corporation administration fail to accede to our demands, we will convene another meeting to formulate a strategy for a phased agitation. If the situation warrants, we are prepared to resort to a strike, an action that could potentially disrupt civic operations across the entire city.

Appealing to the Municipal Commissioner, the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor, and the Ward Councilors, she urged them to empathize with the employees' grievances, take cognizance of the hardships faced by their families, and accept their legitimate demands. She emphasized that the functioning of the Municipal Corporation is impossible without its employees; therefore, their interests must not be disregarded.

She asserted that through this meeting, we wish to convey a clear and unequivocal message: the employees must receive their rightful entitlements; failing which, this agitation will be intensified."
