ELECTION FOR MEMBERS OF THE EMPOWERED STANDING COMMITTEE TO BE HELD ON APRIL 16

ARA-------------------------The District Election Office has issued detailed guidelines regarding the constitution of the Empowered Standing Committee within the Jagdishpur Nagar Panchayat of the district. According to official information, the election for the members of the Empowered Standing Committee of Jagdishpur Nagar Panchayat is scheduled to take place on April 16, 2026.

The election process will commence at 8:00 AM in the auditorium of the Jagdishpur Sub-divisional Office. The District Election Officer (Municipality)—who also serves as the District Magistrate of Bhojpur—has directed all Ward Councilors to be mandatorily present at the designated time and venue.

This election process is being conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Bihar Municipalities (Amendment) Act, 2026. Following the amendments published in the Bihar Gazette on March 12, 2026, changes have been introduced to Sections 21(3) and 27(3) of the Bihar Municipalities Act, 2007. In light of this, and in compliance with Departmental Notification No. 1187 dated April 2, 2026, this new system has been implemented across the urban local bodies of Bhojpur district.

The District Election Office has also issued necessary directives to the Executive Officer of Jagdishpur Nagar Panchayat. The Executive Officer has been instructed to ensure that all elected Ward Councilors receive formal notification regarding this matter, and that a report confirming the service of these notices is submitted to the District Office by April 8, 2026.

It is pertinent to note that under the previous system, members of the Empowered Standing Committee were selected by the Chief Councilor; however, under the new procedure, members will now be selected through a direct vote cast by all Ward Councilors. With the announcement of the election, political activity within the corridors of Jagdishpur Nagar Panchayat has intensified. A series of meetings among the Ward Councilors has already begun, and strategies are currently being formulated in preparation for the upcoming election.
